What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty in Turkey (also called a nose job) is a very popular plastic surgery that alters the shape of the nose. The aim of rhinoplasty is meticulously redesigning the nose while preserving the innate characteristics of the face and the ratio of facial features. Even the slightest change in the shape of the nose can significantly change a person's entire aura, positively affecting the self-confidence and outlook of patients who are dissatisfied with their noses.
Common complaints that can be fixed by rhinoplasty
Nasal tip rotation (lifting the tip of the nose), dorsal hump removal (removing the hump on the bridge of the nose), nose reduction, nostril reduction, and nasal bridge correction are some of the changes requested by patients.
Apart from nose surgeries performed only for aesthetic reasons, functional nose surgery aims to fix breathing difficulties created by problems such as a deviated septum or narrow nasal passages.
In general, most patients would like to have a smaller nose, while a good number of patients are looking to correct a previous (and dissatisfying) nose job with a revision rhinoplasty.
There are also several changes requested depending on the genetic and ethnic features of the person. For instance, African-American or Asian patients generally want a higher nasal bridge for better definition. These patients undergo a special kind of rhinoplasty procedure called ethnic rhinoplasty in Istanbul, which requires a unique skill set and more experience.
Rhinoplasty for breathing difficulties
The deviation of the nasal septum that divides the nose into two halves and swelling of the nasal conchae (also called turbinates) narrow the airways, leading to chronic nasal congestion and difficulty breathing.
In septorhinoplasty, aesthetic and functional problems are simultaneously corrected. Thus, various problems such as snoring, frequent cases of sinusitis, and sleep problems caused by nasal congestion can be solved.
How is nose reshaping done?
Basically, a nose job is performed with either the closed rhinoplasty or open rhinoplasty method.
In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nose. There are no visible scars after surgery, and the patient heals in a shorter time.
In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made under the nostrils, and the skin is lifted. In some cases, the surgeon may find this method to be more advantageous since it provides better access to the structure of the nose and allows for more precise interventions.
What is tip plasty?
Tip plasty is a minimally invasive type of rhinoplasty procedure that is relatively more painless and heals quickly. It is performed if the only part of the nose that needs to be corrected is the tip of the nose and cartilage, that is, if there is no need to operate on the nasal bone.
Patients with complaints such as a wide or bulbous nasal tip, low nasal tip, asymmetry or deformity at the tip of the nose, or a wide alar base are ideal candidates for tip plasty.
Tip plasty surgeries usually take between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours, and patients can be discharged on the same day.
In tip plasty, the cartilage at the tip of the nose is shaped, not the overall bone structure of the nose. Therefore, bruising and swelling are typically not seen.
Piezo rhinoplasty
The Piezo method is a rhinoplasty method that uses ultrasonic sound waves instead of tools that break and cut the bone to shape it. The Piezo device allows millimetric calculations to be made, helps protect soft tissues, vessels and nerves, and ensures that only the bone is shaped. Hence, it helps minimize post-operative pain and swelling.
Non-surgical nose jobs
Injectable nose fillers have become very popular in the past few years. Injectable hyaluronic acid used in many parts of the body and face can also be very effective in correcting minor deformations of the nose.
However, since dermal fillers are not permanent, they are not suitable for patients who aim for drastic changes in the appearance of their noses. Another downside of fillers is that they cannot fix breathing difficulties.
