1. Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Drooping eyelids

The sagging or drooping of the eyelids can be caused by genetics, alcohol, and tobacco use, exposure to excessive sunlight, and aging.

Eyelid lifts are widely sought by both men and women who want to look good.

Patients who undergo blepharoplasty often report feeling more confident in their appearance due to the rejuvenated and rested look they achieve after healing.

Benefits of eyelid surgery

Improved vision: Excess skin and fatty tissue on the upper eyelids can obstruct vision. Removing this tissue during blepharoplasty can improve vision.

Rejuvenated appearance: Blepharoplasty can remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the upper and lower eyelids as well as under-eye bags, giving a more youthful and refreshed appearance to the face.

Enhanced self-confidence: Many people feel self-conscious about the appearance of their eyes, and blepharoplasty can help to restore confidence and improve their overall appearance.

Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Upper eyelid surgery

Upper eyelid surgery, also known as upper blepharoplasty, involves making an incision along the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Excess skin is removed, especially from the outer part of the eyelid, and the incision is closed with sutures.

Drooping upper eyelid may be caused by damage to the nerve that controls the eyelid muscles. This condition is called ptosis and may require a different surgical approach.

Droopy eyebrows

Patients who complain of droopy eyelids are sometimes unaware that their droopy eyebrows are the cause of the issue. In such cases, the drooping of the eyebrow can be mistaken for the drooping of the eyelid skin. If only the eyelids are fixed without addressing the drooping of the eyebrows, the patient is eventually bound to be dissatisfied with the results. In fact, there are many patients whose complaints have been resolved solely through a brow lift instead of eyelid surgery.

Depending on how droopy the brow area is, the problem can be resolved with a brow lift, which is either performed from the eyelid or the scalp.

For patients with pronounced excess skin in the outer and middle regions of the brow, it is more beneficial to make incisions in the scalp. Minimal to moderate corrections can be made from the same incision during eyelid surgery.

Lower eyelid surgery

Lower blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the lower eyelids. The procedure aims to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance by reducing puffiness, wrinkles, dark circles, and bags under the eyes. The primary complaint of patients requesting lower eyelid surgery is under-eye bags.

The incisions are made right below the eyelash line, in the natural creases of the lower eyelids, to minimize scarring and provide better access to the target area. From this incision, under-eye bags can be removed, hollows may be filled, and other problems in the lower eyelid can be corrected.

Excess fat is removed or repositioned to create a smooth, natural contour beneath the eyelid. Depending on the case, excess, sagging skin may be removed, or the lower eyelid muscle may be tightened to provide the most natural, effective results.

Under-eye bags

Many patients turn to plastic surgeons to fix baggy eyes. While these under-eye bags and dark circles create a tired look, if the area under the eyes is too hollow, this also creates a worn-out look. Therefore, in addition to removing the under-eye bags, filling the under-eye hollows is also a common procedure for optimal face rejuvenation.

Drooping cheeks

Deformation in the lower eyelid is not only due to sagging of this region but also of the cheek.

A holistic approach where the sagging in the lower eyelids and the cheeks are handled simultaneously helps get better results.

Fat grafting or midface lifts may be combined with lower blepharoplasty to create a well-rested and rejuvenated appearance.

2. Almond eye surgery (Canthoplasty - Canthopexy)

What is almond eye surgery?

Almond eye surgery is a cosmetic procedure to give the eyes a slanted shape by pulling the outer corner of the eyelid upward, which is considered to create a deeper gaze.

The natural upward-slanting eye shape is considered attractive and youthful and is often associated with certain ethnic groups or attributed to genetics. With modern techniques like almond eye surgery, small interventions can produce dynamic, youthful, and impactful eyes.

Almond eye surgery methods

Almond eye surgery mainly refers to canthopexy. Canthopexy is a minor surgical procedure that involves tightening the tendon at the outer corner of the eye without cutting it to fix a drooping eyelid. On the other hand, Canthoplasty is a more invasive procedure that involves cutting, repositioning, and reattaching the lateral canthal tendon at the outer corner of the eye where the eyelids meet.

Canthoplasty is usually performed in cases where the lower eyelid has seriously weakened due to age or surgery. Canthopexy is typically a cosmetic surgery done to create more aesthetically pleasing eyes.

How is almond eye surgery done?

Almond eye surgery can be considered a special type of blepharoplasty. Lower blepharoplasty is done to eliminate droopiness in the lower eyelids and under-eye bags that cause a tired or sad appearance, while almond eye surgery focuses on changing the shape of the eyes.

The outer corner of the eyelids, called the lateral canthus, is pulled upward and outward and fixed on the bone membrane. It is typically performed under local anesthesia. The procedure takes around an hour, and the patient can return home the same day after a few hours of monitoring.

The healing process following almond eye surgery

  • Patients can return home with a companion the same day.
  • Some swelling and bruising are expected around the eyes for up to a week following the procedure.
  • Sleeping with the head elevated is recommended for a few days to minimize edema.
  • It is also important to avoid strenuous activity, refrain from putting on makeup and protect your eyes from direct sunlight, wind, and dust for the first couple of days. Over time, the swelling will subside, and the incisions will heal, resulting in a more youthful, uplifted appearance.

Are almond eyes permanent?

When performed by an experienced surgeon, almond eye surgery creates extremely natural results, and the effects of the surgery continue for 1 to 3 years.

3. Fox eyes procedure

What is the fox eyes procedure?

Popularized by models such as Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner, fox eyes is a cosmetic, non-surgical suspension procedure to create an upward slant at the outer corner of the eye. It is essentially a brow lift using barbed threads.

Patients that do not want to undergo surgery may opt for this non-surgical and much less invasive method to get a rejuvenated look and foxy eyes.

How is the fox eyes procedure done?

Medical threads are used to create fox eyes. After applying local anesthesia to the target area, threads are inserted under the skin through a cannula placed in the scalp and gently pulled upward and outward to create a slanted appearance. The barbs on the thread lift the skin while also boosting collagen production.

What is the healing process like after getting fox eyes?

Since fox eyes is a suspension method, patients can return to their daily life fairly easily; however, avoiding strenuous activities for a couple of days after the procedure is recommended.

Is fox eyes permanent?

Since fox eyes is a suspension method, it is not a permanent solution. Depending on the patient and lifestyle choices, its effects can be seen for 1,5-2 years.
