What is neck rejuvenation?
Neck rejuvenation or cosmetic neck surgery refers to various surgical procedures to improve the appearance of the neck and jawline. These procedures address issues such as excess fat, loose skin, and wrinkles on the neck, as well as jowls and double chin. Common cosmetic neck surgeries include neck lifts, neck liposuction, and neck liposculpture. When rejuvenating the neck, the aim is to achieve an appearance in harmony with the face.
Problems addressed with neck rejuvenation
Neck rejuvenation procedures can address a variety of cosmetic issues, including:
- Excess fat and skin in the neck and jawline
- Jowls and sagging skin
- Double chin
- Vertical neck bands (turkey neck)
- Loss of definition in the jawline
- Wrinkles and fine lines on the neck
Neck rejuvenation can be performed independently or combined with other procedures, such as a facelift or temporal lift, for a more comprehensive transformation.
Neck rejuvenation methods
There are different neck rejuvenation methods depending on the person's age, needs, and anatomy of the target area. Neck lifts and liposculpture are two of the most popular techniques in cosmetic neck surgery.
- Neck liposculpture
- Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)
1. Neck liposculpture
Neck liposculpture is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat and contours the neck and jawline to create a more youthful and defined appearance.
What is liposculpture?
Liposculpture is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat with a vibrating thin cannula and contours the body. If necessary, the removed fat can be injected into other areas.
Liposculpture methods
Liposculpture is typically performed with one of the following three methods. Your surgeon will determine the suitable method for you after your consultation. The amount of fat to be removed and the overall anatomy of the target area plays a role in deciding the best method for the patient.
- Power-assisted liposculpture (PAL) uses a specialized cannula that vibrates to help break up and remove fat.
- Laser-assisted liposculpture uses low-level laser beams to melt and remove fat rather than suction.
- Ultrasound-assisted liposculpture uses ultrasonic energy to break down fat tissues. This technique allows a greater amount of fat to be removed.
Neck reshaping with neck liposculpture
During the procedure, a solution containing epinephrine and an anesthetic is injected into the fat tissues in the target area. A vibrating micro cannula is inserted into the small incision under the chin to remove excess fat and contour the neck and jawline. Fat tissues are carefully removed with the optimal number of vibrations and, if necessary, purified and transferred to other areas.
Frequently asked questions
The length of the procedure depends on the anatomy of the target area and the amount of fat here. Neck liposculpture usually takes about 2-4 hours.
2. Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)
What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure that improves the appearance of the neck area by removing excess skin, fat, and loose muscle tissue. This procedure aims to give a smoother, younger-looking neck that appears more toned and defined.
A neck lift can address a variety of cosmetic concerns in the neck area, including:
- Excess skin or fat in the neck area that creates a double chin or "turkey neck" appearance
- Loose or sagging neck skin and muscles, which can occur with aging or weight loss
- Vertical banding or wrinkles in the neck area
- A poorly defined jawline or neck contour
Neck and jowl reshaping with a neck lift
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are typically made behind the ears and/or under the chin. The surgeon accesses the underlying muscles and tissues from these incisions to remove excess fat tissue causing a double chin and tighten and repair muscles. The skin is then redraped over the newly contoured neck and jowl area, and any excess skin is trimmed away. Incisions are closed with sutures, and drains are placed to direct fluid out of the body.
Frequently asked questions
The length of a neck lift procedure can vary depending on the extent of the procedure, but it typically takes between 3 to 5 hours to complete.
