Buttock Enhancement

BODY

What is buttock enhancement?

Buttock enhancement is a cosmetic procedure that aims to improve the shape, size, and overall appearance of the buttocks, creating a fuller, more rounded, and lifted look. Also called gluteal augmentation, this procedure enhances the body's natural curves and gives the buttocks a better definition for a more aesthetically pleasing and youthful appearance.

Adding volume is one of the goals and results of buttock enhancement, but the main goal of this procedure is enhancing the shape. For example, when the curve of the waist is improved with liposuction, the buttock becomes more prominent without any implants. Dermal fillers injected into the upper portion of the buttocks gives them a lifted appearance.

Shaping the buttocks with fat grafting should not be perceived only as an enhancement procedure. Removing excess fat and using it to reshape depressed areas creates more pleasing, firmer, and fuller buttocks.

How is buttock enhancement done?

The methods of buttock augmentation vary according to one's anatomy and the desired appearance. Fat grafting (also called Brazilian butt lift or BBL) and silicone butt implants are the most common techniques for buttock enhancement.

1. Buttock enhancement with fat grafting (Brazilian butt lift)

The Brazilian butt lift is a cosmetic procedure that aims to enhance the appearance of the buttocks by augmenting the size and shape through the transfer of fat from other areas of the body. The fat is typically collected through liposuction, processed, and then reinjected into the buttocks for added volume and roundness as well as a lifting and reshaping effect.

How is the Brazilian butt lift done?

The procedure involves removing excess fat from the abdomen, hips, back, or thighs. Fat tissues in these areas are more resistant to absorption, which enhances the longevity of results.

The surgeon makes small incisions in inconspicuous areas, such as the buttock crease, to insert a cannula and suction the fat. The collected fat is then purified and reinjected into the buttocks using a specialized syringe.

The injected fat must establish a blood supply to survive and remain viable in the body. Approximately sixty percent of the injected fat tissue is expected to remain viable. This cannot happen if an excessive amount of fat is injected. Injecting an adequate amount of fat to the correct depth and location is crucial for satisfactory long-term results.

The number of injections and the amount of fat used will vary from patient to patient. The final result can take several months to become fully visible as the swelling subsides and the fat cells settle into their new location.

Advantages of a butt lift

  • Natural results: BBL involves transferring fat from other areas of the body to the buttocks, resulting in a more natural look and feel.
  • Minimal scarring: BBL only requires small incisions for liposuction and fat transfer, resulting in minimal scarring.
  • Fewer risks: BBL has fewer risks than butt implant surgery, such as implant displacement or infection, and much shorter downtime.
  • Customizable: BBL allows for customization of the shape and size of the buttocks, making it easier to achieve the desired look.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the fat for a Brazilian butt lift collected from?

The fat necessary for a Brazilian butt lift is typically collected from areas such as the waist, thighs, or abdomen. These areas are chosen because they typically have a higher concentration of fat and are resistant to being absorbed, which increases the longevity of the results. The area of collection also depends on the patient's anatomy and specific needs. For instance, if there is excess fat in the thighs, collecting fat from this area allows the thighs to be slimmed down and reshaped as well.

2. Butt implants

What is buttock augmentation with implants?

Buttock augmentation with implants is a surgical procedure that involves placing silicone or saline-filled implants in the buttocks to increase their size and improve their shape. Butt implants enhance the definition, especially on the outer and upper parts of the buttocks. Suitable implants are placed within the gluteal muscle to create a natural-looking augmentation and lift effect. Placing the implants under the fascia is recommended only with some special, low-volume implant types.

How are butt implants placed?

Two incisions of 7-8 centimeters are made from the coccyx down. The uppermost parts of these incisions are hidden below the coccyx and are virtually invisible even when naked.

What are the risks of butt implants?

There are some risks associated with butt implants, such as slipping out of place or flipping. These are extremely rare when the procedure is done right.

In the intramuscular method, the butt muscle or gluteus maximus is incised and the implant is placed right into the muscle.

Since there are no natural spaces in the muscle, a pocket is created to hold the implant. It is a difficult technique and requires experience. However, when the incisions are made at the correct location, and a suitable implant volume that will remain in the muscle is selected, complications are very rare.
